Foo Fighters have reportedly found their new drummer. After the departure of Josh Freese earlier this year, several potential replacements were suggested, including Shane Hawkins (son of the late Foos drummer Taylor Hawkins) and internet sensation Jorge "El Estepario Siberiano" Garrido, who shared a series of impressive audition videos on his social media.
Now, reports indicate that the Foos have finally chosen their drummer. Although there has been no official announcement from the band, the Hollywood Reporter and Variety both report having spoken with sources who confirm that Ilan Rubin is the new drummer. Rubin has been with Nine Inch Nails since 2009, when he replaced Josh Freese.
In an interesting twist, it seems Rubin's position in Nine Inch Nails has now been filled by none other than Josh Freese. NIN and Freese confirmed this change by posting a photo of the drummer on their social media, along with the caption, "Let's fucking GO!".
Rubin was the drummer for Lostprophets for two years before joining Nine Inch Nails, and he has released four albums with his solo project, The New Regime. He is also part of Angels & Airwaves with Blink-182's Tom DeLonge, and has collaborated with Paramore, M83, Frank Turner, Beck, and others.
At the age of 32, Rubin became the youngest-ever inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the 2020 class with Nine Inch Nails. Additionally, he authored Start Somewhere to Go Somewhere, a book aimed at helping drummers improve their consistency and creativity.
